Bubblegum Beach
Skunk Jugglers
Sarcastic · Prophetic · Environmental Worries
#VERSE
We stepped out of the Uber
At Bubblegum Beach
Not what I expected
To say the least
Robin planned this vacation
As my birthday surprise
But, damn, I wasn’t ready
When bright colors banged my eyes
#VERSE
I asked her, “Robin, what’s up
With this psychedelic deal?”
She sheepishly grinned
“I wasn’t sure how you’d feel
But the ocean’s so polluted
I thought it might be neat
To spend a few days relaxing
Here at Bubblegum Beach”
#PRE-CHORUS
“A pristine resort
Beloved by kids, Moms, and Dads
As colorful and playful
As a Bubblegum ad
Painted plastic palm trees
And a wave pool for surf
Instead of sand, the whole beach
Is made of astroturf”
#CHORUS
Bubblegum Beach
All the fun you deserve
Bubblegum Beach
Cleanest vacation on Earth
#VERSE
I said, “Babe, no offense
But this won’t fly with me
When you said a beach vacation
I expected the sea”
She said, “Just chill with me two days
And give it a shot
The real beaches are so littered
They’re starting to rot”
#VERSE
So, we had my birthday picnic
On the concrete shore
There were boulders made of sponges
To climb and explore
We body surfed the tide pool
That they’d tinted teal green
My birthday was fantastic
And the whole place sparkling clean
#PRE-CHORUS
I gave Robin a hug
And whispered in her ear
“Babe, I know I resisted
But I kinda like it here”
She said, “Thanks for being open-minded
But I’ll also admit
I’ve got a headache from bright colors
And it just won’t quit”
#CHORUS
“Bubblegum Beach
Look how fun ‘fake’ can be
No biting sharks or stinging jellyfish
It’s fully danger-free
It’s manufactured Shangri-la
The smell is bubblegum sweet
It’s nature’s rainbow-themed replacement
Here at Bubblegum Beach”
#BRIDGE
But by the third day
Robin said she’d had enough
“I’ve got a burning desire
To see the natural stuff”
I agreed, “I need a sunset
Of that real reddish-gold
But Mother Nature has her bags packed
And she’s headed down the road”
#INSTRUMENTAL
#CHORUS
Bubblegum Beach
How does it make you feel?
Bubblegum Beach
So pretty, but not real
We used the world as our playground
While nature paid the price
Now our consolation prize
Is this plastic paradise
#CHORUS
It’s time to plan a funeral
For everything with roots and leaves
The humans send condolences
But no one really grieves
And guess where they’ll hold the wake
Right here at Bubblegum Beach
Guess where they’ll hold the wake
Right here at Bubblegum Beach
